This is Mario. He spends most of his river time right here.

Friday was the Day
Sitting in Starbuck's thinking and watching the human zoo go by outside the window.
Well, Friday was the day. I helped Alex load up her little car with most of her worldly possessions. She left around 4, and headed toward grammy's house to spend her last weekend with her mom. Super dad was blubbering by then. Only 300 miles, I kept thinking. Hopefully, the relative calm and serenity that Alex has enjoyed in Pipe Creek willl give her a good foundation to get through the homesickness.
Saturday I was mostly just thoughtful. Realizing how profound and positive this transition is. I think Alex is numb. I can't imagine the level of emotions she must be feeling. On Monday, she heads up to Jack Camp, the freshman camp. Looks like a good ice breaker. Well, my sanity commands that I get out of this noisy place. More later...

Another Saturday Night
Alex is heading for college in about 4 weeks. The realization is starting to creep in for both of us. For me, it means an empty house -- not seeing her almost every day. For her, a major life transition. We shopped for shorts today and spent the whole day together. Happiness.
Shes' going to spend some time with her mother and grandmother tomorrow. It's a thoughtful time for me. Deep breath. Everything changes. We long to hold on, or at least we operate as if nothing will. I do know that she is entering an incredible time of her life. I am doing everything possible to support her today and always. But it's time for her to begin finding her own way, depending on herself, making important decisions.
She spent a year with her mother and then this last year with me. What can I say? Having this time with her, helping her get through the college selection process. I am blessed. No one can take this away from me. Well. I'm off to do something else for a while.

Land Stretching Out So Far and Wide
Yep, a new blog. Maybe I'll actually keep this one fairly up to date. Well, there's always tomorrow!
